Know which spot to choose depending on the swell, the wind, your level and the time available.
The Bay of Essaouira is made for beginners. Sidi Kaouki adds power for intermediates. Imsouane is the destination for long right-handers, for riders who want endless rides. The choice is made mainly according to your level, the swell of the day and the time you have ahead of you.
The best spot of the day is rarely a question of reputation. A beginner will progress best in a less spectacular but more readable bay, with clean white water and enough space to repeat. An intermediate will look for a longer or more open wave, but only if the size and current remain suitable.
This is why we often leave Essaouira to build the day. We look at the swell, the tide, the forecast wind and the level of the group, then we decide if the bay is enough or if Sidi Kaouki or Imsouane are worth the trip.

The bay receives a filtered Atlantic swell which produces soft, predictable waves. No brutal shore break, no wave that comes out of nowhere, no current that pulls you out to sea. The bottom is sandy everywhere in the course area: falls are not scary.
This is where all our courses are given. The conditions are forgiving of beginner mistakes and allow you to repeat gestures, like pop-up, paddle and position, without having to manage power at the same time.
The best window is in the morning, before the trade winds rise. In summer, the afternoons are often too windy for bay surfing: the surface gets choppy and wind sports take over.
Waves of 0.5 to 1.5 m depending on the swell and the season. Beach break in several sections, some deeper areas depending on the tide.
Beginners, first sessions, families, longboards on soft sections, repeat riders.
30 minutes south by the coastal road, Sidi Kaouki is a large beach exposed to the Atlantic swell without the filtering of the bay. The waves are more consistent, more powerful and better formed. This is the natural march after having consolidated its bases in the bay.
The large beach provides space, even in season. The sections vary depending on the tide and the direction of the swell: some days a clean beach break with real sections, other days more closed.
The most reliable window remains in the morning, before the wind picks up. Lateral currents exist depending on the tide and swell, so this is not a spot for someone who has never surfed outside of a calm bay.
Waves of 1 to 2.5 m depending on the swell. Beach break in several sections depending on the tide.
Half-day organized at €30, transport included from Essaouira beach.
Intermediate to advanced, shortboards, longboards on softer sections.
1h15 to the south, Imsouane is an experience all its own. A regular right-hander which can run for several hundred meters in good conditions: long, slow, rhythmic. It is the wave that allows you to work on turns, projections and flow on a generous section. Longboarders know it well. Patient shortboarders can also find some very nice sections there.
Imsouane is now very busy, especially in high season. The line-up can be dense, priority rules seriously apply. Arriving early makes a real difference. Outside of high season, the spot has a calmer atmosphere.
In big swells, the wave becomes more powerful and faster: less suitable for beginners, much more fun for intermediates and advanced who master the hollower sections.
Longboarders, intermediates who want long rides, surfers who are looking to work on their style.
Full day organized for €50, transport included.

| 30 € half day | 50 € day | The morning decision | We avoid setting the spot several days in advance. We look at the swell, the wind, the tide and the level of the group, then we choose the most coherent option for the day's session. |
A successful excursion is about more than just entering the water in the right place. You have to plan for transportation, timing, meals, fatigue and the return with the boards. When everything is on track, the group really enjoys the session instead of spending half the day managing the route and equipment.

More powerful beach break for intermediates and motivated riders. Leave early.
Long, famous straight line, only interesting for a full day excursion.
The window changes with swell, wind, tide and group level.
October to April for both: the Atlantic swell is more regular and the wind less dominant. In summer, the surface can be chopped in the afternoon.
No. The road lasts 1 hour 15 minutes: allow a full day for the trip to be worth it.
Confirmed beginners with a few sessions in the bay can go with supervision. Imsouane is generally recommended from intermediate level.
Yes. You can rent a board from the club and take it on an excursion.
