From the first take-off to the long rights
Essaouira Bay is suitable for beginners thanks to its gentle waves, sandy bottom and easy access. This is the easiest starting point for learning to paddle, stand up and read the foams. Sidi Kaouki and Imsouane then allow you to look for longer or more powerful waves depending on your level, your desire and the swell of the day.
These three spots cover most situations: school sessions in the bay, beach waves in Sidi Kaouki, and legendary rides in Imsouane. The choice always depends on the swell, the wind, the tide and the level of the group: this is why our excursions are decided in the morning according to the conditions of the moment.
Essaouira Bay - the school spot
Soft and regular waves, sandy bottom, long and clear beach. This is where we start. The bay receives a filtered Atlantic swell which produces soft and predictable waves: no brutal shore break, no wave that arrives from nowhere.
The best surf window in the bay is often in the morning, before the trade winds rise and chop up the waves. In summer, afternoons are often too windy for surfing: wingfoiling and kitesurfing take over.

Sidi Kaouki - the beach break for intermediates
30 minutes to the south, Sidi Kaouki is a large beach exposed to the Atlantic swell. The beach break is more consistent and more powerful than in the bay. Well formed sections on some days, more demanding conditions than the bay.
Morning is the best window: before the wind picks up, the waves are clean and well formed. In the afternoon, the wind can chop the surface. Currents present depending on the tide and swell: to take into account if you are not comfortable with managing currents.

Imsouane - the legendary right
1h15 south of Essaouira, Imsouane is one of the most famous waves in Africa. A regular right-hander which can run for several hundred meters in good conditions. Slow and long wave, ideal for longboards and surfers who want to work on their curves on a generous section.
Imsouane is now very busy in high season. The line-up can be busy: you have to know the priority rules and ride with discernment. In big swells, the wave becomes more powerful and less suitable for beginners.
