Choose the right months according to your level, the strength of the wind and the number of people on the water.
Kitesurfing in Essaouira works very well from April to October, with a more consistent wind in summer and often more space in June and September. The choice of period also depends on your level: beginners, independents and wave riders are not looking for the same conditions.
The best time is not necessarily when the wind is strongest. A beginner needs regularity, space, readable wind and an instructor available at the right time. An independent rider who comes to ride hard will instead look for the powerful days of July and August.
Before booking, ask yourself what you want to achieve at the end of the stay: take your first tacks, go upwind, work on transitions, discover the waves or organize a downwind. The right travel window follows directly from this goal.

The wind gradually picks up. Good conditions to get started, reasonable attendance, lower accommodation prices. A few calmer days to expect.
Excellent for all levels. Wind between 18 and 28 knots, regular conditions, beach not yet overcrowded. The month we recommend primarily to beginners and intermediates.
Maximum wind in the afternoon (25-35 knots current). Great for advanced players. Mornings, before 12 p.m., remain accessible for beginners. High season: book well in advance.
Wind still reliable, attendance down, water at its maximum heat (22-23°C). One of the best months of the year on all levels.
More variable, but very good sessions possible. Water still hot. Good option for intermediates who want to avoid the crowds.
Unpredictable. Reserved for residents or riders with a lot of flexibility.
The wind in Essaouira is not continuous over 24 hours. It is a thermal wind that follows a predictable daily cycle in high season. Understanding this changes everything when planning your sessions.
Wind still light to moderate (12-18 knots). Good window for beginners or to calmly go upwind.
Gradual climb (18-25 knots). The ideal session for intermediates: enough power, not yet the brutality of the afternoon.
Thermal peak. In July-August, 25-35 knots are common. It's time for advanced riders and freestyle.
The wind is starting to die down. Sunset sessions are often pleasant: fewer people and magnificent light.
June or September are your best months. The wind is present but the afternoon peaks remain within manageable ranges (18-25 knots). In July-August, the mornings remain accessible, but the afternoons can exceed what a rider who is still learning can tolerate.
You can come from April to October. July-August gives the most powerful sessions and the best freeride days. You manage the rising wind in the afternoon without pressure.
July-August is your window. Maximum wind, swell present on the northern spots, downwinds in good power conditions. September remains excellent if you want to avoid the high season.
The reference spot from April to October. Side-shore wind, flat water, large space. Suitable for all levels: this is where all our courses are given.
The beach break is more pleasant when the swell is present and the wind is not yet at its peak. June and September often offer the best windows to combine kite wind and clean waves.
Advanced northern wave spot. Strong wind and Atlantic swell combine for powerful sessions. Reserved for advanced kitesurfers.

In Essaouira, we rarely plan a kite day like in a spot where the wind remains the same from morning to evening. Beginner students often benefit from sailing early, when the bay is more readable. Advanced riders wait for the thermal peak to benefit from more power.
Very steady wind, but more people on the water.
Often the best windows to progress with less pressure.
Favor less busy days and supervised morning slots.
Possibility of combining bay, rental and downwind depending on the weather.
Technically yes, but November to March does not guarantee daily wind. For a planned trip focused on kitesurfing, stay within the April-October window.
Riders weighing 70-80 kg typically sail in 7-9 m² in the afternoon. In the morning, a 9-11 m² is more suitable.
In high season (June-August), yes: wind present the vast majority of days. In April-May and October, windless days are possible.
For freeriding in bays, no. For wave sessions in Moulay or Sidi Kaouki, yes: the swell determines the quality of the waves.
